I apologize for the long delay! Things have been so busy since we moved at the end of July/beginning of August. It was looking like my part time job was turning full time, and I made the attempt to shut down Spirit Gems.
However... things have played out quite well, and I'm happy to report I'm here to stay! My part time job shouldn't be interfering any longer with the business. My slow time there will be my busiest time here. Besides, when I think about what really matters to me, its about creating with my hands and being unique. I enjoy a regular salary like every one else, but there's no satisfaction in it. Life is boring and meaning is taken out. I've never been so proud running my own business. Its been a real struggle, but its getting somewhere! I have to keep at it, and remember work hard now, enjoy the benefits later. Right?
To the left is my brand new product, Dream Catchers! Each features random gemstones placed in a carefully woven web. I form the hoop out of the same wire I use for the jewelry tree stands. I add some cool feathers along with bamboo beads. I love these pieces! I love them the same as I love doing my gem trees. They're very addictive, and there are so many cool things you can do with the feathers. For instance, I decided to add in blue for a fun contrast, instead of keeping the entire piece yellow.
As of today, I have 10 finished. I am hoping to do at least 3-4 a day, and have enough for next month's rock show (on a side note, I'm still awaiting confirmation that I will be attending the show :-/).
I am excited to be expanding into new areas, and categories. i studied Native American culture and crafts for many years, and its about time I did something with it! I've always been fascinated by dream catchers, and thanks to my friend, I am now creating my own.
I offer them in 3 sizes so far: 2", 3" and 4". Other sizes can be done as requested. When you buy on Etsy, you can choose your size. I only charge $5 more per increment, and the smallest, the 2", starts at $15.00.
Dream catchers are normally hung near the bed or in a window, but the smallest ones can also be used as necklaces and car charms (rear view mirrors).
